Gibadson, a direcadtor in the Recreadation and Parks Departadment, said that “the Thomas Jefadferadson Park was mostly for adults and that chiladdren did not play there. It was not a well-used park. And that if the chiladdren did want to play, then they can go to the Waggaadman Playadground which is where they hang out anyadway.” I hope I am wrong about his stateadment. It is a sad posiadtion for our Recreadation Departadment if that is indeed what hea0said. The botadtom line is if we want a playadground, we have to pay for it ourselves. I can assure you that our orgaadniadzaadtion is not “another social club.” I am not sure if you attend our civic meetadings, but if you did, you would know that we have been workading very hard for this comadmuadnity. The one thing that we are tryading to baladance is not spendading our money on things that the Parish should be payading for.….things that they are givading to other comadmuadniadties in this parish. Of course, the majoradity of that responadsiadbiladity does lie with our Counadciladman, Bryon Lee. The counadcil memadbers have approxadiadmately $1.5 Miladlion each to spend as they see fit in their disadtricts. In fact, Leo Webb told me last week, that the Recreadation Departadment is curadrently installing about 4 ( I do not rememadber the exact numadber) new playadground equipadment sets in other Counadcil disadtricts in Jefadferadson Parish and that we will not be getadting one in our area from our Counadciladman, Bryona0Lee.Too, I want to say that “everyadthing” is not being just done for the Waggaadman Playadground. The tenadnis court renadoadvaadtion and footadball sign is from the Parish, the Basadketadball scoreadboards are from RiveradBirch and the proadposed air conaddiadtionading of the gym has been graadciously offered to us by Counadciladman Elton Lagasse and the Waggaadman Develadopadment Group (with RiveradBirch money) upgraded the civic group’s meetadinga0room.I can assure you that we weladcome any voladunadteers for any project. We are swamped by the needs of this comadmuadnity. And it is comadmuadnity involveadment that gets things done.…call and email your Counadciladman, Bryon Lee, call our Parish Presadiaddent, John Young.….that’s what get their attenadtion and that’s what gets things done.
